Green Captain

The Green Captain project originates from the inspiring narrative of one of the world's youngest tanker captains who transitioned into a cultivator of traditional products. This brand embodies a deep commitment to heritage preservation, with every element reflecting the founder’s remarkable journey. The brand icon, a fusion of a leaf and a hidden ship, tells a story of maritime roots and island heritage. The packaging exudes storytelling and pays homage to the brand's origins, from olive oil bottles adorned with captain suit motifs to wine labels featuring subtle ship emblems.

Overview

The founders of Green Captain approached Zambelli Brand Design to create a unique narrative and brand identity for their traditional products. Our task was to encapsulate their profound dedication to heritage within the brand and packaging design. This project aimed to create a cohesive and compelling brand that could convey the founders’ story and the rich history of Šipan Island.

Approach

Our methodology began with an in-depth brand strategy, which involved exploring brand stories, understanding the target customers, and analyzing competitors. We conducted extensive research on the island’s history and the founder’s legacy, ensuring that every aspect of the brand would resonate with authenticity and heritage.

The process continued with the brand naming phase, aiming to craft a name that would encapsulate the essence of the founder’s journey. Inspired by the architecture, vegetation, and traditions of Šipan Island, we moved forward with the design phase. This involved creating a unique brand icon - a combination of a leaf and a hidden ship - symbolizing the founder’s transition from seafaring to cultivating island treasures.

We designed packaging for various products, including wine labels, olive oil labels, and carob packaging. Each design element was carefully chosen to reflect the maritime and island heritage, seamlessly integrating captain iconography and natural motifs.

Results

The GreenCaptain brand and packaging successfully capture the founder's journey and the essence of Šipan Island. The iconic brand symbol - a leaf merged with a hidden ship - beautifully represents the founder's story. With their captain suit symbols and ship emblems, the packaging designs bring this narrative to life,creating a solid emotional connection with consumers.

GreenCaptain Šipan Island Treasures will make its market debut with a flagship store. they are opening on Šipan Island in the summer of 2024. The brand and packaging design has already garnered recognition, winning the A’Design Award for Brand and Communication Design. This accolade highlights this project’s seamless. integration of narrative and aesthetics, setting Green Captain apart as a branddeeply rooted in tradition and modern elegance.
